Recently, Ukraine has seen a significant increase in demand for high-capacity feed mills. Before the war, livestock enterprises typically relied on capacities of 3–5 tons per hour, but now the demand has reached 5–7–10 tons per hour.
A feed mill is a specialized facility that produces animal feed using various grain and protein components. The primary goal of such mills is to provide livestock farms with high-quality, nutritious, and balanced feed — a critically important element in the agricultural productivity chain. Having an in-house feed production facility allows farms to control product quality, reduce costs, and increase overall profitability.
As noted by Mykola Demchak, director of the company “Siy Dobro,” in an interview with Latifundist.com, producing your own feed is always more cost-effective. It ensures full control over product quality and reduces expenses associated with purchasing commercial feed. Large-scale feed mills with capacities of 30–50 tons per hour are being built not only to meet the needs of individual farms but also to generate profits by selling surplus production.
According to Mykola Demchak, in 2023, the cost difference between in-house and purchased feed was about 2,000 UAH per ton. For enterprises producing 20–25 tons per day, this translates into daily savings of 40,000–50,000 UAH. Annually, such savings amount to millions of hryvnias.
Thus, owning a feed mill is a strategic decision that allows agricultural enterprises to reduce costs, boost productivity, and ensure stability in challenging economic conditions.
